REMEMBER: A phrase is a group of words that function together as one part of speech and which does not contain both a subject and a verb.
ADJECTIVE PHRASES modify nouns or pronouns
ADJECTIVE PHRASES answer the questions what kind, which one, how many, how much, or whose

3 types of phrases may function as ADJECTIVES
Prepositional phrases
Prepositional phrase consists of (is made of) a preposition, its noun or pronoun object, and any other modifiers of the object.
preposition: a word that shows the lationship to a noun or a pronoun (see section on prepositions)
prepositional phrases consist of 3 things
The object of the preposition (o.p.) may be compound.
Prepositional phrases can also function as adverbs
and nouns, but we are only working with prepositional phrases that modify nouns and pronouns (adjective prepositional phrases).
Examples
David was a descendant of the noble Ruth.
The girl with the pink bow is my cousin.
My horse is the chestnut mare with the white star on its forehead.
The new project of the community is the neglected house on the corner of the street,
Our ride in the mountains gave me great pleasure.
Participle: a verbal that modifies a noun or pronoun and ends with -ing or -ed or -t or -en and functions as an adjective in a sentence
Examples

The mother brought her injured son to the hospital.
.He didn’t want to eat the burnt toast.
She took the broken bicycle to the shop.
Participial phrases
Participial phrases consist of (are made of) the participle and its modifiers and complements.
The modifiers may be single adverbs or prepositional phrases The entire phrase acts as an adjective to modify a noun or pronoun
Examples
The lad holding the horse’s reins was small.
Cowering to a maid, Peter denied his Lord.
Volunteers skilled in craftsmanship are needed.
Pleased with the news, the older gentleman smiled.
The saints will tread a road paved with pure gold.
